Matteo Berrettini could not hide his delight at the ATP Finals moving from London to Turin after he readied himself for his second appearance at the event.

The Italian star is in action at the ATP 500 Vienna Open this week ahead of the Paris Masters and ATP Finals in November.

After defeating his first round opponent Alexei Popyrin in straight sets, Berrettini spoke about his victory.

“I knew it would be tough, especially at the beginning,” Berrettini admitted in his post-match interview. “[Popyrin had already] played two matches [in qualifying for Vienna], tough matches.

“So, for sure he was feeling the conditions and in the beginning I had to adjust a little bit, adapt on the court. Practice is one thing, playing the match is another.

“You could tell in the second set I was playing better I was feeling better. So, yeah, [I’m] happy for that.”

The interviewer then shifted the conversation onto the ATP Finals and how Berrettini felt about securing qualification for the second time in his career.

“Crazy. It was in the air. It’s an unbelievable achievement. [I’m] so happy. It’s going to be in Italy and really I cannot wait…Wow, what an achievement.

“Now I know it’s happening. London was amazing, probably Turin will be even better. Nothing to take from London but I mean it’s going to be in Italy so, wow!”

There is even the possibility that Berrettini will be joined at the event by another Italian talent in Jannik Sinner.

Specifically, the 20-year-old is currently 10th in the race to the Finals. As a result and with Rafael Nadal out for the season, Sinner is just one spot from qualifying for the event for the first time.
