The former world No.1 returned to action on the grass after missing the clay court season with a right ankle injury. She defeated Turkey’s Cagla Buyukakcay 7-5 6-3 in the first round at Nottingham Tennis Centre.

"It's nice to be back," said the world No.34. "It felt nice to be back on court. There's always things I'd like to do better, but all in all, for a first match back in so many weeks, it's just great to be back there.

"It was 10 weeks at home, working hard and trying to get back in good shape and form. It feels much more different to play a match than practice, and you feel a little bit sore.

"You can kind of feel a little bit of rust out there, but it could have been a lot worse. I'm pleased with the result, and the way I fought. I moved pretty well. I hit my targets pretty well. I got a lot of returns back, and the first serve percentage was high."

Wozniacki is scheduled to play at next week's Aegon Classic in Birmingham and the Aegon International in Eastbourne ahead of Wimbledon.
