Caroline Wozniacki could join forces with Tomas Berdych and play for a local Czech tennis league club as part of her preparations for the new season – if the team goes on to reach Saturday’s finals.
The Agrofert Prostejov side from eastern Czech Republic features a star-studded line-up, including world No.6 Tomas Berdych, world No.36 Andrey Golubev and 20-year-old Petra Kvitova, who beat Wozniacki 6-2 6-0 when the pair met in the fourth round of Wimbledon this year.
In 1997, Czechoslovakian-born Martina Hingis was world No.1 when she helped the Prostejov club to win the domestic title.
Wozniacki, 20, won six titles last year – in Ponte Vedra Beach, Copenhagen, Montreal, New Haven, Tokyo and Beijing – and said on Thursday that her main goal for the year was to retain her No.1 ranking.
