Wozniacki is one of the WTA Tour’s rising stars following a career season in 2008 that saw the 18-year-old claim her first three titles and ascend to a career-best ranking of 12th.

After suffering a three-set loss in Melbourne to the 25-year-old Dokic, who was once ranked as high as fourth in the world in 2002 before being inactive in recent years due to injuries and personal problems, Wozniacki returned the favour in only 48 minutes.

The Denmark native will face Frenchwoman Severine Bremond, who defeated Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium 6-4 6-0 in the second round.

In other first-round matches, Stephanie Foretz of France and Russian qualifier Chanelle Scheepers also advanced with three-set victories.

A trio of players advanced to the third round, including second-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus and number five seed Marina Erakovic.

Azarenka registered her second straight 6-2 6-2 win, this time over unseeded Frenchwoman Stephanie Cohen-Aloro. The 19-year-old Azarenka is off to a good start this year after claiming her maiden WTA title at Brisbane last month and dispatching of American Varvara Lepchenko in the opening round.

Erakovic dropped the first set against American wild card Melanie Oudin before rallying for a 4-6 6-2 6-3 triumph.

Dutch qualifier Michaella Krajicek also moved into the third round where she will meet either Wozniacki or Bremond.
