The Danish 18-year-old, who steamrollered France’s Virginie Razzano 6-2 6-0 in the quarter-finals, was forced to battle by her Russian opponent before finally coming through in a little under three hours, 6-4 5-7 7-5.

For Wozniacki it was a repeat of her win in the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last month, when she twice came from a break down to beat Dementieva in two sets.

Here she edged a tight first set before surrendering the second as both women struggled to control their serve.

The third was an equally tense affair which seemed to be heading for a tie-breaker, until Dementieva finally succumbed.

Wozniacki will face Sabine Lisicki in the final after she defeated French sixth seed Marion Bartoli.

The German 19-year-old, seeded 16, beat former world number one Venus Williams earlier in the tournament and was again in top form as she overwhelmed Bartoli, claiming a 6-3 6-1 win.
