Heavy rain brought by Tropical Storm Danny meant no play was possible outdoors, prompting the WTA Tour to relocate to an indoor college court.

Second seed Wozniacki wasted little time sealing her passage with a 6-4 6-1 victory over third seed Flavia Pennetta.

The Dane will face unseeded Russian Elena Vesnina in tomorrow’s showpiece after she defeated eighth seed Amelie Mauresmo.

The Frenchwoman had knocked out top seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarter-finals and she began well but Vesnina hit back strongly to triumph 5-7 6-1 6-2.

Wozniacki is bidding for her third title of the year after winning in Ponte Vedra Beach and Eastbourne while Vesnina lost her only previous WTA Tour final in Auckland earlier this season.

Wozniacki has won two of their three previous meetings, the last of which came in the semi-finals on the Dane’s way to victory in Ponte Vedra Beach.

The men’s semi-finals – with second seed Fernando Verdasco taking on Igor Andreev and in-form Sam Querrey facing Jose Acasuso – were postponed because of the weather.

Organisers may again have to look indoors with more bad weather forecast and little leeway ahead of the US Open, which starts on Monday in New York.
