What Federer could buy for $43 million…

One man who probably isnt feeling the economic downturn quite as much as most is 13-time grand slam winner Roger Federer.

The Swiss 27-year-old returned to the locker-room after his victory over Radek Stepanek at the Madrid Masters on Wednesday night as the all-time leader in career prize money in men’s tennis.

Prior to his 6-3, 7-6 victory over Stepanek, Federer occupied second place behind Pete Sampras.

But the $32,428 he is now guaranteed for his work in the Spanish capital this week has taken him to a whopping $43,288,519 pocketed during his career around $30,000 more than Sampras walked away from the game with.

Mens tennis all-time earners

1. Roger Federer – $43,288,519
2. Pete Sampras – $43,280,489
3. Andre Agassi – $31,152,975
4. Boris Becker – $25,080,956
5. Yevgeny Kafelnikov – $23,883,797
6. Ivan Lendl – $21,262,417
7. Stefan Edberg – $20,630,941
8. Rafael Nadal – $20,566,948
9. Goran Ivanisevic – $19,876,579
10 . Michael Chang – $19,145,632

Federers mind-boggling tally got us thinking. What could the princely sum of just over $43 million buy a man who must have just about everything

Here are some ideas

  • Four of the worlds most expensive cars, the Bugatti Type 41 Royale. One problem, though there were only six made. Rog could at least get his hands on one of them though a 1930s model is currently for sale for around $10 million.
  • Just over 51 million new Slazenger Wimbledon tennis balls. More than enough to work on his clay court game for that elusive Roland Garros title.
  • More than two-and-half million shares of UBS.
Fed could snap these up at $16.66 apiece when the New York Stock Exchange opens on Thursday.
  • A hefty 2,886,723 annual subscriptions to one of his favourite magazines, National Geographic.
  • Around 131,612 pairs of Pradas Americas Cup sneakers
at $329 a pop. Federer says Prada is one of his favourite labels.
  • A stomach-churning 9,232,589 tubs of his favourite strawberry ice cream at $4.69 a pot including delivery!

And what $43 million cant buy

… the two grand slams singles titles Fed needs to put him one ahead of Sampras all-time record of 14. They will have to wait… for now.
