Verdasco advances but Karlovic falls short

While the top-seeded Verdasco needed just 53 second minutes to advance, number two seed Ivo Karlovic was upset by Slovenian qualifier Luka Gregorc 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 6-2.

Verdasco is the only seeded player remaining on his side of the draw and will next will face German Mischa Zverev, a 1-6 6-3 6-1 winner over American Robby Ginepri, after breaking serve on four of seven opportunities and dropping just eight points behind his serve to wrap up the victory.
