Seventh seeded American Venus breezed through the opening set in just 32 minutes after converting two of four break point opportunities on the ninth seed’s serve, while surviving three on her own.

Venus blazed 14 winners compared to three from Radwanska, but committed 13 unforced errors.

In the second set, Venus was broken once but used three breaks of the Radwanska serve to wrap up the match in 86 minutes.

Fourth seed Serena, also a two-time US Open champion, faces France’s Severine Bremond in the first match on the Arthur Ashe court on Monday evening.
