‘Everyone wants to play the US Open and we will support them,’ says Tennis Australia chief Craig Tiley


Tennis Australia chief Craig Tiley says they will ‘support’ their players whatever decision they make regarding the US Open.

Whether the tournament can go ahead is currently uncertain, with many players worried about quarantine rules when travelling to and from America.

There is a very real possibility that players would be forced to take a two-week break after the tournament, which could seriously impact their French Open plans.

The viability of the tournament be ultimately rest on the decision of top players, but Australian players will be given the freedom to decide for themselves.

ā€œWhatever they decide, we will support them,ā€ Tiley said.

ā€œI know everyone wants to play the US Open and French Open and they are adamant on wanting to do that.

ā€œBut they also have to get an exemption to leave Australia, consider a possible 14-day quarantine period when they come back, and how that will affect their training schedule.

“Will they be allowed to go from New York to Paris easily? Some are more concerned than others.

“But from everything Iā€™ve seen, the US Open has done great concerning bio-security and testing protocols.ā€
