Tsonga pulls out of Sydney event

Tsonga withdrew from his quarter-final clash against Jarkko Nieminen without hitting a ball due to a back complaint that has plagued him throughout his opening two matches.

The 2008 Australian Open finalist was twice forced to stop for treatment during Wednesday’s easy win over Simone Bolelli. He was quick to play down suggestions of an injury after that match but just hours before he was due to take to the court for his last-eight clash, Tsonga pulled out of the build-up event.
