The 32-year-old Thai triumphed 6-3 3-6 7-5 to claim her place in round three, where she was joined by Kazakh duo Yaroslava Shvedova and Sesil Karatantcheva.

Fourth seed Shvedova ousted South Africa’s Chanelle Scheepers 7-6 (10/8) 6-3 while unseeded Karatantcheva cruised past eighth-seeded German Julia Goerges 6-2 6-1.

In first-round action, seventh seed Kimiko Date Krumm of Japan was forced to retire with a left ankle injury in her match against Anastasia Rodionova. The Australian was 6-1 1-0 up when veteran Date Krumm decided she could not continue.

Sania Mirza, the sixth seed from India, was also eliminated, with Tatjana Malek battling back to claim a 3-6 6-4 6-3 victory.

Third-seeded Russian Vera Dushevina and Austrian fifth seed Sybille Bammer fared better, however. Dushevina saw off Kazakhstan’s Galina Voskoboeva 6-4 6-2 while Bammer edged New Zealand’s Marina Erakovic 7-6 (10/8) 7-5.
