tennishead magazine: August issue out now!

Normally at this time of year we’d be looking back at Wimbledon, all misty-eyed and mournful, but there’s no time for that now, for the second half of the 2012 season is set to be both very different and, well, flipping brilliant.

In our fit-to-burst August issue, not only can we reflect on all that was wonderful about Wimbledon 2012 (the giant-killing acts, the late-night finishes, the slice of British history-making and the accompanying emotion) we can look ahead to many more great stories on the grass of the new-look, purple-themed All England Club.

Roger Federer and Serena Williams return to London in their national colours as favourites to win singles gold at the Olympic Games for the first time after their historic wins at Wimbledon, and we’ve got features on both of these two extraordinary athletes who have every intention of winning plenty more big prizes.

This year will be the seventh time tennis has been played at the Olympics since the sport returned to the Games in 1988 and we take an in-depth look at the Games and how it now matches, if not exceeds, the importance of a Grand Slam for many of the top players. We’ve also got exclusive interviews with 1996 Olympic silver medallist Tim Henman, 1988 gold medallist Steffi Graf, entertainers Richard Gasquet and Mansour Bahrami, plus there’s plenty to get your teeth into in our academy section. Youlia Berbian-Maleeva tells Patrick Mouratoglou how she coached three of her daughters (Richard Williams, eat your heart out) to inside the world’s top 10, and we look at how the ITF junior tennis forums are benefiting the young stars of the future.

Elsewhere, Marin Cilic talks to us about his racket, Caroline Wozniacki tells us about her underwear (yes, really) and Eric Babolat talks us through his vision for Babolat’s innovative Play and Connect racket.

We’ve also got interviews with Laura Robson, Kevin Anderson and keen tennis-player and Private Eye editor Ian Hislop to keep you busy, plus there’s our comprehensive results section, jam-packed with all the singles, doubles and mixed doubles highlights from Roland Garros and Wimbledon and all the ATP and WTA tour events in between.

Of course, if you’re lucky enough to have tickets for the Olympics you’ll need a fine publication to read during the twelve-hour wait for the tube, so what are you waiting for? Get your copy now!
