The big-serving American did not drop a set in the tournament as he tasted success on the grass in Rhode Island for a third time. It’s an 11th title win for the 32-year-old, and he will look to continue his winning run at the Atlanta Open next week.

David Ferrer is also back in the winners’ circle as he defeated Alexandr Dolgopolov 6-4-6-4 to win the SkiStar Swedish Open for a third time

The Spaniard was rarely troubled by his unorthodox opponent and he was overjoyed to secure a 27th career title – the most in the Open era without winning a Grand Slam. It’s a 13 success on a clay-court for the 35-year-old and he will now turn his attention to the Hamburg Open in Germany.

"It's been two years that I haven't won a tournament, so I'm really happy for this win," said the champion. "I was a little nervous up 5-1 and Alexandr played without pressure. I tried to be focused on every point, but when I had all those match-points, I was thinking too much.

"I am going week by week, match by match and I still have the motivation. I know it will be very difficult to get back to the top 10, but if I stay competitive like this week, I will play next year for sure.”

Elsewhere, Andrey Rublev entered the main draw of the Croatia Open as a lucky loser and ended the tournament as the champion. The highly-talented Russian teenager recorded a convincing 6-4 6-2 win over Paolo Lorenzi to win his first title at main-tour level.
