Stefanos Tsitsipas ‘thanks God’ after Wimbledon mixed doubles withdrawal
Stefanos Tsitsipas has spoken of his relief to have withdrawn from the Wimbledon mixed doubles event, after his girlfriend Paula Badosa picked up an injury.
Tsitsipas had entered himself into all three possible events, singles, men’s doubles with his brother Petros, and mixed doubles alongside his girlfriend Badosa.

The Greek was scheduled to play mixed doubles with Badosa against top seeds Jessica Pegula and Austin Krajicek, who have now also pulled out of the event.
However, the Spanish WTA star was forced to retire from her second round singles match against Marta Kostyuk, with a recurring spinal injury, and subsequently withdrew from the mixed doubles.
Tsitsipas, however, did not seem too disappointed by this news, “Mixed [doubles] is not a thing anymore, thank God. I prefer to live.”
He continued, “It never crossed my mind that I would be doing all three in a single event, but I also see it from the bright side. You like tennis so much, you want to be in these Slams for as long as possible. You want to challenge yourself in singles, doubles, mixed doubles. I personally like mixed doubles.”
Tsitsipas played five set matches in both of his opening singles rounds, with victories over Grand Slam champions Dominic Thiem and Andy Murray, and followed it up with a straight sets win over Laslo Djere to reach the fourth round at SW19.
And after several rain delays, the Tsitsipas brothers have finally completed their first round match to which they were defeated in three sets.
This means that for Stefanos Tsitsipas he now only has singles to focus on, with his fourth round match against the in-form Christopher Eubanks taking place tomorrow.

Tsitsipas has the chance to achieve his best ever result at the grass major tomorrow, with the No.5 looking to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in his career.
