Serena Williams and Coco Gauff set to team-up as America names strong Fed Cup squad

Serena Williams and Coco Gauff are set to team up this week as American take on Latvia in the Fed Cup.

Williams made her Fed Cup debut over two decades ago in 1999, more than four years before Gauff was even born.

She has been, as you’d expect, a formidable presence in the Fed Cup, winning all 13 of her singles matches over the years.

Gauff, meanwhile, will be amking her debut in the competition, and will become the second-youngest Amercian to make the Fed Cup team.

The 15-year-old, who is expected to break into the world’s top 50 on Monday after her fine Australian Open run, is surpassed only on the list by Jennifer Capriati, who was a year younger when she made her debut in 1990.

Williams and Gauff are joined in the Amercian team by Australian Open semifinalist Sofia Kenin, Alison Riske and doubles specialist Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

Latvia has a couple of very capable names in their squad too, with Anasasija Sevastova and Jelena Ostapenko both included.
