Serena taking nothing for granted

Williams reached the last four with a demolition job on Victoria Azarenka but with everyone forecasting another all-family affair in the final on Saturday, Serena has put all such thoughts to the back of her mind. Although sister Venus says she feels “almost invincible” when stepping out on to the grass at SW19, Serena is not so confident ahead of Thursday’s semi-final.

“I don’t feel invincible,” said Serena. “But I should definitely have the same attitude. I am going to try to feel that way too.”

She added: “Right now I’m just thinking about winning my next round, which is another tough match.”

Serena tackled Dementieva at SW19 six years ago, when Williams beat the Russian on the way to her second Wimbledon title.

Williams remarked that she has no memory of that match at all, but has plenty of other reference points.

“I’ve played her a lot in the last 12 months so I definitely know Elena’s game,” explained the second seed.

“She gets a lot of balls back and she’s a power player.

“It will be a really good match-up to me. She’s playing really well on the grass. She hasn’t been stretched too much in any of her matches either so she’s going undercover.”
