Seeds advance in Guangzhou

The fifth-seeded Dulko of Argentina needed two hours, 45 minutes to outlast Belarus’ Tatiana Poutchek 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 6-4, while the seventh-seeded Frenchwoman Parmentier claimed a 6-1 7-5 victory over China’s Xinyun Han at the Tier III hard court event.

Parmentier will meet either Austrian Tamira Paszek or qualifier Ye-Ra Lee of Korea in the second round.

Dulko will next face qualifier Arantxa Rus of Holland, who grinded out a 6-7 (2-7) 6-2 6-4 win against Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer.

China’s Yi-Fan Xu also advanced to the second round Tuesday, posting a 6-3 6-1 triumph over Canadian Stephanie Dubois.

Xu converted 5-of-6 break points as Dubois struggled with her serve throughout the 69-minute match.

The lone American in the draw, Jill Craybas cruised to a 6-2 6-4 victory against Russian qualifier Anastasia Pivovarova.
