Roger Federer confirms 2019 tournament schedule, admits what he’s happy about after US Open defeat
Roger Federer has decided on the tournament schedule he’ll play for the rest of 2019 but admits he is looking forward to a rest before playing competitively again this year
Roger Federer had just lost an agonising 5 set thriller to Grigor Dimitrov when he was asked to confirm his schedule for the rest of 2019 in the post match press conference. Federer seemed down throughout the interview but did agree that one thing he was now looking forward to was a short break from tennis before he hits the practise court again.
When asked about his competitive tournament schedule for the rest of the year Federer confirmed, “Laver Cup, Shanghai, Basel, maybe Paris and London.”
Federer was referring to the Laver Cup, from 20th – 22nd September in Geneva, Switzerland then the Shanghai Masters in China followed by the Swiss Indoors in Basel and then maybe the Paris ATP Masters 1000 and the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 in London to finish off his year.
Wold No.3 and No.3 seed at the US Open, Roger Federer lost to Grigor Dimitrov, the Bulgarian world No.78, in 5 sets, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 2-6 in the quarter finals of the 2019 US Open.
The match stats only go to show how incredibly close the match was but, as is normally the case in these top class encounters, it was the small details that counted at the end and the fact that Dimitrov managed to slightly edge it on most of the statistical measures must have made the difference.
Grigor Dimitrov now plays Daniil Medvedev in the semi final with both players looking to reach a Grand slam final for the first time in the careers.
