Roger Federer backhand at Australian Open

‘Roger Federer comes to mind, especially how he hits the ball’ – Italian teenager likened to Swiss legend

Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti is reminiscent of Roger Federer, especially with his ability to vary his serve, says his former coach.

Musetti has a fine pedigree having been a ITF Juniors world number one and he now trains at the Patrick Mouratoglou Academy.

He is yet to make his mark on the ATP Tour, but Gianluca Naso, who has worked extensively with him before, has told tennis to expect big things from the 18-year-old.

“I don’t want [to compare] but Roger Federer comes to mind obviously,” Naso told Ubitennis.

“Roger Federer’s service is unique and inimitable: The ease of being able to change pace within a single point, knowing how to play on other surfaces, knowing how to use the back, he also likes to come forward.

“Like Federer he has the ease with which he manages to hit the ball, especially from the right side it reminds you a little of the Swiss.”

Musetti, who lists Roger Federer as his idol, also boasts a very similar one-handed backhand.
