Roger Federer practises at Wimbledon 2019

Roger Federer aiming to extend two incredible records in Wimbledon opener

Wimbledon No.2 seed and 8 time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer will be focussed on the match when he steps onto Centre Court today but another two records will also be within his grasp

If Roger Federer can overcome the challenge of world ranked 86 Lloyd Harris in the first round at Wimbledon today he will become the first player in history to reach the 2nd round in 17 consecutive attempts plus being the first player in the open era to make 21 straight Wimbledon appearances.

Federer’s opponent Harris has made the 2nd round of Grand Slam just once before so the size of the task facing him is apparent for all to see. Today will also be Harris’s first ever tour level match on a grass court, so to face possibly the greatest grass court player ever must be somewhat daunting. In fact Federer is the most succesful active player on grass with 181 careers win on the surface against 21 losses.

Federer’s preparation for another assault on the tile has been immaculate as usual with the now customary victory at ‘his own’ tournament in Halle. In fact, some commentators predict that Halle might even cease to exist as an ATP Tournament once Federer retires.

Federer plays n the second match on centre court today after reigning Ladies Champion Angelique Kerber begins the defence of het 2018 title.
