Andy Roddick has given his new Davis Cup captain Jim Courier a boost ahead of the 2011 campaign by confirming his commitment to the US team for next year.

Roddick has been a prominent member in the team since making his debut in 2001, notably playing a key role in helping the US to the title in 2007.

But the 28-year-old decided to take this year off to reduce the wear and tear on his body after suffering a knee injury at the back-end of 2009.

“I’m very excited to be back,” said Roddick, who has an impressive 31-11 win-loss record in Davis Cup singles matches. “Trying to win the Davis Cup again is a top priority for me in 2011.”

The American will have to get used to a different set-up though, since  Courier suceeded former captain Patrick McEnroe at the end of October.

“I look forward to working with Jim next season,” said the world No.8. “It will be strange to be sitting next to someone other than Patrick on the bench, but I have a great deal of respect for Jim. He is a fierce competitor and I know he holds the Davis Cup in the same esteem that I do.”

Courier will attempt to guide the nation to their 33rd Davis Cup trophy but first up is a tricky World Group first-round tie away to Chile in March and the 40-year-old admitted that Roddick’s availability is a real boost.

“Having Andy commit to the 2011 campaign is huge for our team,” said Courier. “Andy not only brings his outstanding Davis Cup record but also his experience and team leadership which will be invaluable to our efforts.

“On a personal note I am very excited to get the opportunity to sit on the bench with Andy and help him continue to perform at his very best on the Davis Cup stage.”
