The fifth seed, who turned 15 this month, struggled a little on serve but broke three times in each set to set up a second-round clash with Thailand’s Kanyapat Narattana.

Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, who Robson defeated in the final of Wimbledon last year, is the top seed in Melbourne.
