Robson, who moved ahead of Heather Watson as British No.1 earlier in the day, failed to build on a first-set lead as she was beaten 5-7 7-6(9) 6-1 by Spain’s Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

The 19-year-old won the opening set 7-5, but after losing a thrilling tiebreak in the second, ran out of steam in the third set as she dropped her serve three times in the decider.

Robson, who was seeded eighth in Poland, will be hoping to improve her clay-court form ahead of the French Open, which begins on May 26.
