Radwanska joins Serena and Nadal for World Tennis Day

Taking place on Monday, March 4, the first World Tennis Day is part of the International Tennis Federation’s centenary celebrations._ь_ь

Radwanska has stepped in to replace Li Na at the BNP Paribas Showdown and will face former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in Hong Kong after Li was forced to withdraw with an ankle injury.

“Caroline and I are great friends but also long-standing rivals, so I expect a hard fought contest,” Radwanska said.

Legends John McEnroe and Ivan Lendl will resume rivalries at the AsiaWorld-Arena, while in New York, an event by the same name will see Rafael Nadal take on Juan Martin Del Potro at Madison Square Garden.

Manhattan will also host a battle of the world’s top two women as world No.1 Williams goes head-to-head with Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka.

National tennis associations around the world are also taking part in the festivities. The Argentine Tennis Association are closing the widest road in the world, Avenida 9 de Julio in Buenos Aires, for a Tennis10s exhibition.

Countries around the globe are hosting free events and exhibitions, with celebrations taking place from Barbados to Libya and Cambodia to Paraguay._ь_ь

“World Tennis Day will put a spotlight on tennis participation in our centenary year,” ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said._ь_ь

“The very successful Tennis Night in America, staged by the USTA in association with StarGames, is an example of how special events and participation activities can be combined successfully._ь_ь

“We are pleased with the initial response from many of our member National Associations, and look forward to additional events and activities around the world over the next few years.”
