Making up for time lost earlier in the week, Querrey began the day by dispatching Prakash Amritraj somewhat emphatically, smashing 31 aces in a 6-7 (7-9) 6-3 6-2 win.

Then, in the quarter-finals, the third seed took out fellow American Kevin Kim 6-3 6-4 to keep him on course for his first ATP World Tour title of the year.

He will next face the winner of the the clash between two-time defending champion Fabrice Santoro and Nicolas Mahut. Santoro saw off Taylor Dent 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in the second round.

Earlier in the day, Kim beat Daniel Brands 4-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4.

Lucky loser Rajeev Ram is making the most of his chance in this tournament, and he won back-to-back matches to reach his first ATP World Tour semi-final.

He first ousted Australian Samuel Groth 6-4 6-2 and then fellow American Jesse Levine 5-7 6-2 7-6 (7-3).

Levine had earlier beaten Philipp Petzschner 7-6 (7-3) 6-2.

Ram next faces Olivier Rochus, who beat Sergiy Stakhovsky 5-7 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 and Brendan Evans 6-4 6-4.
