Pros that poke: Facebook world rankings

Originally published on: 26/02/10 14:11

In the second edition of the Tennishead Facebook top 30 (based on each player’s number of friends on the aforementioned horribly addictive social networking website) there are five friendly Frenchmen and women in the top 11, with Richard Gasquet still way out in front with a whopping 2,310 mates.

New entries Paul Henri Mathieu, Fabrice Santoro and Nicolas Mahut have bolstered their nation’s offering coming in at No.3, 9 and 11 respectively to add to Tati Golovin who has a solid 510 amis at No.5.

Our very own Jamie Murray deserves recognition, however. He’s had a good month, adding a respectable 168 buddies to his tally during March, comfortably holding onto second spot in the process. Oh, and he reached the semis of the doubles in Indian Wells too. Nice one, my son.

Other new entries come from Canada, Belgium, South Africa and Austria as Daniel Nestor (12th), Kristof Vliegen (18th), Chris Haggard (28th) and Jurgen Melzer (30th) make their debut.

Slovak Jarmilla Gajdosova is the biggest mover of the players who appeared in the first ever listing. She’s been hard at it and has turned some late-night Facebooking into another 75 chums in the last month or so, enough to push her from 20th to 16th. That might explain why she hasn’t won a match since the first week of January.

Nominations for Spoilsport of the Month are Paul Hanley and Sania Mirza, who appear to have been fiddling with their privacy settings. Shame on you.
