Petrova, Kirilenko into Cincy quarter-finals


Nadia Petrova and Maria Kirilenko both booked quarter-final places in the Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open in Cincinnati tennis championships on Wednesday.

After the withdrawal of top seed Marion Bartoli on Tuesday, Russian second seed Petrova looked every inch the favourite for the title as she swept aside American Julie Ditty.

Petrova was never in trouble during a 6-1, 6-1 second round victory and takes on American wild card Lilia Osterloh in the last eight after she outplayed Czech Petra Cetkovska 6-4, 6-1 at the Cincinnati tennis championships.

It was a different story for Kirilenko, though. The third-seeded Russian had to recover from a disastrous first set to beat Canadian qualifier St
