The 14-year-old celebrated her first-ever match on the WTA Tour with a win in the first round, but Petrova proved too much for her – the Russian running out a 6-3 6-2 winner.

In the next round, Petrova will meet Alona Bondarenko, who fought back from a set down to beat her younger sister Kateryna 4-6 6-4 6-3.

Having lost the opening set and trailing 3-1 in the second, the 24-year-old Alona won 11 of the last 15 games – including a 13-deuce game – to defeat her 22-year-old sister.

The win tied the sisters at 3-3 in matches against each other.

In other matches, third-seeded Dominka Cibulkova defeated Anastasia Rodionova, 6-1 6-3. Cibulkova was runner up here last year after losing out in the final to Maria Sharapova.

And finally, Elena Vesnina of Russian defeated Austria’s Patricia Mayr 1-6 6-3 6-2.
