Noventi Halle Open 2020 preview

The Noventi Open is a grass court tournament played in Halle, Germany and is used as a warm up event for the prestigious Wimbledon championships. The Noventi Open is an ATP 500 event and was first played in 1993. That year, former French Open finalist, Henri Leconte held the winners trophy.

Six Germans have won this tournament, but the most successful champion has been Roger Federer. The Swiss sealed his 10th title in 2019 to go alongside his eight Wimbledon crowns.

The Noventi Open is one of the few tournaments outside of the Grand Slams that has a retractable roof on Centre Court.

Preview:

Federer will once again play in Germany this year. While many of the top players compete at the Queen’s Championships in London, the Swiss has had a love affair with Halle and will be the favourite to make more history.

Dominic Thiem is a former semi-finalist at this event and will hope to win his first grass court title. Thiem has started this year on a high, knocking out Rafael Nadal en-route to the Australian Open final.

Alexander Zverev is another young gun who is expected to compete in Halle. The German made the quarter-finals last year, before bowing out to finalist David Goffin.
