Novak Djokovic: ‘I maybe love the dropshot TOO much, but it’s vital in these conditions’


Novak Djokovic admits he ‘may have used the dropshot too much’ in his win over Karen Khachanov, although he believes it’s a vital shot at Roland Garros this year.

The dropshot has been used to a much greater extend than usual at Roland Garros this year, with Hugo Gaston attempting 55 during one match against Dominic Thiem.

Djokovic has implemented with far more success and skill than most, although his radar was slightly off against the Russian in the fourth round.

Despite that, he knows how crucial a tactic it will be in the heavier conditions in Paris this year.

“I love the drop but maybe too much,” Djokovic told the press with a smile.

“I said it’s going to be a very important shot in this conditions, because it’s just so heavy and so slow.

“It’s a great variety shot the dropshot, so it is tactically important to have it and use it in the right time to keep your opponent guessing what is the next shot.

“I may have played to many today, I agree, maybe I have exceeded what I should have played, but it is more important than any surface on clay to have that variety.”
