Novak Djokovic explains addition of Wimbledon legend to his coaching team

Novak Djokovic says Goran Ivanisevic can offer vital guidance after confirming the Wimbledon legend has been added to his coaching team.

The world number one effortlessly eased past Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 in his opening match, but it was the appearance of Ivanisevic in Djokovic’s entourage on Centre Court that caused the biggest stir.

“We both agreed that we were looking for someone that was a former champion, someone that knows how I feel on the court, someone that has been through that,” explained Djokovic.

“We agreed with the idea of introducing a new coach to our team, an addition like Boris Becker was back few years ago.

“It was a very successful period with Boris. We’re hoping we can have the same with Goran.”

Ivanisevic is a much-loved figure at Wimbledon. The Croatian lost three finals in the 1990s at his peak before returning with a wild card in 2001 and claiming a famous victory.

He also has some pedigree as a coach having helped Marin Cilic to his 2014 US Open triumph, as well as Tomas Berych ad Milos Raonic at various other times.
