Nick Kyrgios wades in on ‘joker’ Novak Djokovic, asking: ‘How many years would I be banned for?’


Nick Kyrgios wasted little tile before reopening his war of words with Novak Djokovic, referring to the Serb as ‘joker’.

Djokovic was defaulted from the US Open on Sunday after he accidentally struck a female line judge in the throat in an act of frustration after being broken in the first set of his fourth-round match.

He was immediately defaulted by the tournament referee before quickly leaving the venue without comment.

“Swap me for jokers (referring to Djokovic) incident,” he told his followers on Twitter. “‘Accidentally hitting the ball kid in the throat’… how many years would I be banned for?’

Kyrgios has been hugely critical of Djokovic all summer mainly due to the coronavirus outbreak in the Adria Tour, which the Serb organised.

He called the decision ‘boneheaded’ and has also spoken out against other players who were involved in the event.

‘Joker’ is often a nickname people use for Djokovic, although it would be somewhat out of character for Nick Kyrgios to use it affectionately.
