Nadal plans summer from Bangkok

Yep, we know it’s only September, but if people are going to insist on talking about Christmas, then dammit, Rafael Nadal is going to start talking about the grass season.

“I love playing at Queen’s Club because it is a traditional club,” he said this week. “Every time I have played there I have felt very welcome because of the British people and their support, and because of the tournament organisers who are so good at their job.”

And though the US Open champ is in Bangkok in preparation for next week’s PPT Thailand Open – which is set to host Juan Martin Del Potro’s long-awaited tour return – Nadal has already turned his attentions to the 2011 AEGON Championships, confirming his intended participation today.

“After the French Open, it is very important for me to feel the grass under my feet as soon as possible,” said Nadal, who was out on the Queen’s Club practice courts in the pouring rain within 24 hours of winning his fifth Roland Garros title this year.

“I tried my best in every match this year [at Queen’s] and was disappointed that I could not win the tournament, but I reached the quarterfinals and it definitely helped me to feel ready for Wimbledon. I am looking forward to playing at both of these important events in 2011.”
