Nadal may currently be enjoying one of the best seasons of his career but the 13-time Grand Slam champion is already looking ahead to more silverware in 2014.

The Spaniard recently announced that he will travel to Rio de Janeiro, the host of the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games, next February for the Masters 500 event, which is a recent addition to the calendar. The clay-court tournament will be the only combined ATP and WTA event to be held in South America.

“I am looking forward to playing for the first time ever in Rio de Janeiro,” said the US Open champion. “I have heard so much about the city, and now I will finally have the opportunity to be there. All around the world, when I play, I can feel the love of the Brazilian people.”

“It’s very important for South American tennis that we finally have an ATP World Tour 500 event. It’s a great victory for Brazil,” he added.

Nadal will be joined in Brazil by compatriot David Ferrer, who committed to the tournament earlier in the year.
