The pair went down 5-7 4-6 to the Germans in Doha, leaving Murray to concentrate on the defence of his singles title, which begins with a first-round clash with Spaniard Albert Montanes on Tuesday.

The tournament, the first of the 2009 ATP World Tour season, will serve as preparation for the Australian Open in a fortnight’s time as the Scotsman aims for his first grand slam title.
