The Scot is about to fly to Miami for around four weeks of intensive training after finishing an impressive year fourth in the world rankings. And Murray, 21, believes addressing the nutritional side of his game will help to improve his performance.

“If I’m going to put on six pounds or so I’ll have to eat loads, because I’m training for five hours a day,” he said.

“I’ll be eating sushi, drinking protein drinks, eating those bars you have after a match,” he added.

“I’ve always eaten pretty well but I’ve never really had a nutritional programme before. If I can put on weight, it will give me more power in my shots.”
