The world No.3 continues his rehabilitation after undergoing back surgery last month.

Murray is unbeaten on home soil in 2013 after winning his third Aegon Championships title at The Queen's Club before his historic victory at Wimbledon, but he will be unable to extend that streak at The O2 next month.

"I'm really disappointed not to be playing this year, I love playing in front of my home crowd, it's a great atmosphere,” Murray said. “All the players look forward to competing in London and I'll be doing my best to qualify again for the tournament next year."_ь

Tournament director Andre Silva added: “It’s unfortunate that Andy will be unable to play in this year’s tournament. He’s had a historic year on the Tour and of course he’ll be missed.

“We wish him all the best as he continues his recovery from surgery, and we hope to see him back stronger than ever for the 2014 season.”_ь _ь

Murray had already qualified for the eight-man season finale in London alongside Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and David Ferrer. Following the Scot's withdrawal, five singles places are up for grabs with Juan Martin Del Potro, Tomas Berdych, Roger Federer leading the way to book their places.

Stanislas Wawrinka, Milos Raonic and Richard Gasquet are all bidding to boost their hopes of qualification in the final weeks of the season, while Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner and Tommy Haas still have an outside chance.

Murray is scheduled to return to action later next month after it was announced that he would headline the Dream Cup in Barbados.

He has also confirmed his attendance at the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi, where he will feature in a star-studded six-man exhibition featuring both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic at the end of December before heading to Australia to defend his Brisbane International title.
