The world No.4 convincingly beat Marin Cilic 7-5 6-2 6-3 in a fourth round encounter played over two days on the roofless Court 1. Past champions Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, meanwhile, enjoyed a day off ahead of their quarter-finals with Florian Mayer and Mikhail Youzhny, respectively, after completing their fourth round matches on Monday.

The bottom half of the draw have it tougher, with Murray set to take on world No.5 David Ferrer and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga due to face Philipp Kohlschreiber a day after booking their spot in the last eight.

“Anyone will tell you if you play four matches in eight days, it's better than playing four matches in five or six days,” admitted Murray. “The more rest you can get the better, but it's part of playing Grand Slam tennis. Often it's happened to me in the past at the US Open where there's been like a backlog of matches. It's not going to be the only time it happens here either. [But] it's not just me. There's lots of guys in exactly the same position.”

Murray, who has reached the semi-finals at the All England Club for the past three years running, will seek his sixth career triumph over the 30-year-old Spaniard when they face each other in the last eight. Ferrer has won their last two meetings, including a recent four-set triumph at Roland Garros and a round-robin win at last November’s Barclays ATP World Tour finals, but the Scot had won four on the trot before those battles and honours are even in their 10 career meetings. The pair have never met on the grass.

“I just need to make sure I play well tomorrow and see what the outcome is,” added Murray.
