The world No.2 begins his campaign at The O2 against David Ferrer on Monday, having been drawn in ‘Group Ilie Nastase’ with the Spaniard, Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal.

World No.1 and three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic is in ‘Group Stan Smith’ with Roger Federer, Tomas Berdych and Kei Nishikori. The ATP launched the Finals Club this week, in recognition of singles players and doubles teams to have qualified for the season finale since the tournament began in Tokyo in 1970.

Murray had suggested that he might opt to miss the eight-man season finale in order to prepare for the Davis Cup final in Belgium on November 27-29, but he has been practising on the clay in London this week and is happy with his preparations for both events.

“For me the highlight this year has been the Davis Cup,” said Murray at the launch of the new HEAD Graphene XT Radical racket series at Pro-Direct’s LDN19 store in London. “We’re in the final in a couple of weeks time. It’s something I never saw myself, or the team, having a chance to win the Davis Cup.

“I got back from Paris on Sunday night and I have been training on clay for the past four days. I go over to The O2 to start training Friday afternoon – Friday evening is my first practice there. As soon as I am done at the Tour Finals which will hopefully be a week on Sunday, if I reach the final that is, then I go straight to Belgium from there and get ready for the clay.

“It’s been a long year, but also I am experiencing things I have never experienced before so I’m also excited and that has given me a lot of motivation over the last couple of weeks. The body feels good, I feel fresh, and hopefully I can play some good tennis.”
