The British No.1 received his award from the Duke of Cambridge, but was delayed after an unexpected visit just moments before he was due to leave his Surrey home.
"They turned up at my door at 8.20am and I had a taxi booked for half past eight,” said the two-time Grand Slam champion. “I was a bit worried I was going to be late but the taxi did a great job in getting us here.
“[Drug testing is] part of the job but when you have a day like today you are looking forward to, it's the last thing you need.”
The Wimbledon champion, who is currently in rehabilitation following surgery on a back injury last month, is targeting a return to action in 2014.
"I'm not going to come back until I'm 100 per cent fit so I'll have to wait and see," Murray told Sky Sports News. "I've been recovering well, I've been doing my rehab and I haven't hit a tennis ball for four weeks.
"It's probably going to be another four weeks or so before I can start getting on the court again, but I'll just have to wait and see. "
