So far, so good for Andy Murray. The 21-year-old Scot is so far living up to his Aussie Open favourite tag and scored a comfortable victory over young Spaniard Marcel Granollers on Melbournes Rod Laver Arena on Thursday night.
Few expected Granollers, the world No.51, to pose many problems for the world No.4 and fourth seed Down Under and so it proved.
The man from Dunblane spent ten minutes short of two hours on court and broke his opponent six times during a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 victory.
The result puts the Briton into the third round where hell take on Austrian Jurgen Melzer for a place in the last 16.
“I thought when I got my feet moving, sort of had my mind on the point, I thought I hit the ball well, Murray said. I got better as the match went on.
I wasn’t concentrating on every point. It was tough. His body language, the way he sort of walks around the court, looks likes he’s not that interested.
He’s been like that since we were young. You know, it’s tough to sort of stay with the match all the time.
But, like I said, each time I got behind in a game, down 0-30 on my serve a few times, you know, I slowed myself down and focused. I felt like I hit the ball much better today.
Murray and Melzer will face off on Saturday.
