Murray, 22, and 32-year-old Vemic beat Austrians Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer 6-7 (14/16) 6-2 10-4, battling back from dropping a tight first set which their opponents took on a lengthy tie-break.

Murray said: “That was our first match together and it was great to get off to a winning start. Melzer and Knowle are an established pair with a great record, so it was a good win for us.”
