Mouratoglou reiterates call for coaching on ATP Tour after Nadal coaches Federer at Laver Cup

Patrick Mouratoglou, coach to Serena Williams, has used the excitement and engagement created by the on court coaching at the Laver Cup to remind the ATP Tour that this could be introduced all year round, but not everyone agrees

Mouratoglou is an influential figure in world tennis having been instrumental in the careers of many great players including Coco Gauff and Stefanos Tsitsipas and now he wants to influence the sport itself by persuading the ATP Tour to allow coaching on the court during all ATP tournaments.

Mouratoglou, a regular tennishead columnist, believes that tennis needs to add excitement to help engage with a younger audience and on-court coaching is one of the methods that could be used. The French academy owner used the example of Nadal coaching Federer at the hugely succesful Laver Cup this year as a great case study how tennis can help engage fans in the sport in a different way.

Mouratoglou commented on his own Twitter feed:

However, tennishead recently interviewed Canadian powerhouse Milos Raonic and asked the same question about on court coaching to which Raonic responded that he was against the idea as one of the main positives of tennis is that the player has to work out their own solutions whilst on court.

The debate goes on…
