Wozniacki steamrolled to a 6-2 6-1 victory over Japan’s Ayumi Morita in 71 minutes.

By contrast, Medina Garrigues looked all at sea as she succumbed to Australian Samantha Stosur 6-1 7-5.

Wozniacki’s triumph came as welcome relief for the Dane who while winning two titles on tour this year, has suffered a dip in form recently that has seen her ousted in the opening round of her past two tournaments.

Medina Garrigues, who beat Wozniacki in Beijing last week and has been in good form, struggled against Stosur to end her hopes of earning a second consecutive quarter-final berth and fourth in her past six events.

Stosur, who lost to Maria Kirilenko in the final at Seoul last week, next will face eighth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak. The Canadian routed Japanese qualifier Ryoko Fuda 6-1 6-1 to book a spot in her fourth quarter-final this season.

Also advancing to the round of eight on Thursday were Klara Zakopalova of the Czech Republic, who posted a 6-3 6-0 triumph over Italian Jarmila Gajdosova, and Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who was a 6-2 6-4 winner against Japan’s Rika Fujiwara.
