Mattek unravelled in the final set and fell to Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova 7-6 (7/4) 0-6 6-0.

A wild-card entrant into this US Open tune-up event, Mattek had been looking to build upon a surprising run at the Los Angeles event earlier this summer where she reached the semi-finals.
