Madrid fans in heaven as Djokovic, Nadal & Federer take centre stage

What a day for anyone with tickets to the Madrid Open as Djokovic, Federer then Nadal are scheduled for consecutive games plus two other scintillating match ups

Can there be a better day to have tickets to Court Manolo Santana at the Madrid Open as the schedule sees Novak Djokovic play the second match due on court followed by Roger Federer and then Rafa Nadal.

Novak Djokovic shouldn’t be troubled by his veteran French opponent Jeremy Chardy but the Serb’s current form has been erratic to say the least and if the French player can wind up his massive serve and forehand then there is every chance of an upset or at least a long three set match. Unusually for a Frenchman, clay is not Chardy’s best surface as his game is more suited to faster hard courts which is where most of his best results this season have occurred. The fact that Chardy has never beaten Djokovic in their 12 previous encounters doesn’t bode well.

Federer faces the enigmatic French star Gael Monfils who is renowned for his showmanship and athleticism but seems to struggle when forced to knuckle down and play sensible tennis against any of the big stars. Will his tendency towards showmanship be controlled so that he can give Federer a stern enough test? tennishead really hopes so as an in-form focussed Monfils could well cause an upset or at least give Federer a stern challenge in this best of three set encounter. Monfils has beaten Federer twice in their last three meetings with both of those wins coming on clay courts. Watch this match closely!

Raf Nadal is drawn against Frances Tiafoe, the young American currently making a sharp move up the world rankings. These two have played once before when they met at the Australian Open earlier this year with Nadal coming through comfortably in three straight sets. But Tiafoe has improved since then and will give Nadal a stern test today.
