Lloyd cancels play-offs

With the country’s second highest-ranked player, Alex Bogdanovic, discarded because of his poor David Cup record, captain Lloyd set up the play-offs to decide who would join British number one – and world number four – Andy Murray and doubles specialist Ross Hutchins in the side to face Ukraine next month.

But, following Murray’s withdrawal from the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships with a virus, Lloyd cancelled Friday’s action, deciding against risking further problems by players over-exerting themselves in search of a place in the team.

Lloyd is expected to confirm his team later today for the Europe/Africa Zone Group One tie at Braehead Arena in Glasgow from March 6 to 8.
