Ranked 63 in the world and seeded 16th, Lisicki had already produced what she described as one of the biggest wins of her career when she beat former world number one Venus Williams earlier in the week.

But the 19-year-old German topped that achievement by beating world number 12 and fifth seed Wozniacki, pummelling nine aces on the way to victory.

Perhaps feeling the effects of her three-set marathon win over Elena Dementieva on Saturday, Dane Wozniacki struggled to get a footing in the match until it was too late.

With Lisicki serving for the match, Wozniacki fought back from 40-0 down as nerves got to the German and even earned a break point.

However Lisicki regained her composure to close out the match.
