Stefanos Tsitsipas: Nick Kyrgios ‘a bully’ with ‘an evil side’ who ‘cannot play without a circus’

Stefanos Tsitsipas has branded Nick Kyrgios as ‘bully with an evil side’ after their feisty meeting at Wimbledon.

The duo met on Court No. 1 in what always promised to be an absorbing and high-quality contest, and the tennis certainly did not let anyone down.

It was the various ‘antics’ of each player that made the headlines, though.

Kyrgios was given code violations for swearing and at one point implored the match officials to default Tsitsipas after the Greek hit a ball into the crowd.

Meanwhile, Tsitsipas was given violations for unsportsmanlike conduct for launching balls into the crowd and well out of court, and he repeatedly fired the ball directly at Kyrgios during play.

In the end, it was Kyrgios who won through after four sets of an enthralling contest, but he did not win any respect from his opponent.

Quite the opposite, in fact.

“It’s constant bullying, that’s what he does,” Tsitsipas told the press in his post-match press conference at SW19.

“He bullies his opponents, he was probably a bully at school himself.

“He has some good traits and character as well.

“But he also has a very evil side to him, which if it’s exposed can do a lot of harm and bad.”

Kyrgios will face Brandon Nakashima in the next round.

The draw has opened up for him to make him a realistic contender to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals at least.
